LodestarLodestar Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Lodestar (“the app”) respects your privacy. It handles only the minimum information it needs, and keeps it on your device whenever possible.
1. Information the app uses and stores
The app does not collect personal information such as accounts, names or email addresses.
| Information | Purpose | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Calculating the visible sky, tonight’s highlights and nearby stargazing spots | On your device only (the last location used) |
| Camera | Showing the sky, and saving a photo when you save a star | Only saved photos, on your device |
| Motion sensors | Identifying stars from where your phone is pointing | Not stored |
| Records (object name, date, place, photo) | My Universe and Star Passport | On your device only |
None of this information is sent to the developer’s servers.
2. Information sent to outside services
The app communicates with outside services only in these cases:
- Cloud forecasts (Open-Meteo): to estimate tonight’s sky conditions, latitude and longitude rounded to about 10 km (6 miles) are sent to Open-Meteo. No information that identifies you is sent.
- Maps and place names (Apple): the app uses Apple services (MapKit and Location Services) to show maps and look up place names. Apple handles this data under the Apple Privacy Policy.
The app uses no advertising, analytics or tracking.
3. Deleting your data
You can delete your records and photos at any time from My Universe → gear icon → Delete all records. Deleting the app also deletes all of its data on your device.
4. Children’s privacy
The app can be used by people of any age and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
5. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page.
